memory Monday

Lovely Donna from Brynwood is winding up her memory Monday for something new in 2013,so I thought I would start mine.I am hoping I can carry it through the year,we will see.
The first memory to share has to be my beautiful mum.Violet Evelyn Grooms.Born in 1912 my mum had a hard rd to travel. When she was 6 years old and her brother Joe was 4  both her parents passed away.Mum and Joe went to live with an aunt and uncle, and 4 cousins. My darling mum did not have a happy childhood, times were very hard in those days.Poor mum being the oldest was called upon to do most of the daily chores including looking after all the little ones.At age 14 she went into Service,it was for a Rector and his family, and was treated no better.
she married her first husband Reg Wykes when she was 19 years old,and had 3 children,my oldest brother Raymond and my 2 sisters Shiela and Maureen.
When Mareen was only a few months old,Reg went to the dentist to have a tooth removed, and died by choking on a cotton wool swab.
5 years later, she met and married my darling dad Arthur Harris .They adored one another, and she always claimed he was the love of her life. She gave birth to me and my 2 younger brothers,John and Terrence. My dear parents had 22 very happy married years together. It was mum who taught us girls to sew knit chrochet and all the other things in between.
She never moaned about a thing, and always saw the good things in life,( was very fond of cream cakes).
She was only 57 years old when she died of a masive heart attack, and  I was just  turned 21.
I am now 64 years old ,and a day dosnt go by without a thought to my mum.
She never met my wonderful husband or my gorgeous girls and grandchildren.
Still remembered and always loved annd missed.

This was taken in 1947 when she met my dad.He carried this pictur in his wallet till the day he died,xx

a very foggy Tuesday

Well it's been a very cold week.On Monday and Tuesday we had a new boiler fitted,so no heating for 2 days.We have a gas fire,so wasn't too bad in the living room, but the rest of the house .....On Wednesday hooray....the plumbers finished and turned it on.....faulty.The engineer came out on Thursday and sorted it out.So at last we are nice and warm again. If its going to happen to anyone it's usually us...
Friday we helped our youngest daughter move house,oh I'm too old for this humping furniture about.
What a week.
I have been stitching ,these are the first 2 blocks of my pumpkin quilt.I decided I would try needle turn appliqué ,I wasn't sure and diddnt make up my mind untill I started to cut out the pieces .
So here they are stitched together.I really enjoyed making them, though it did take me a long time.

block 1

block 2

both together.

This is some pink I have started to cut for a friends granddaughter arriving in January.

Bit of a challenge

My new BOM arrived today, been really looking forward to this one.Its called Pumpkinville, from The Fat Quarter Shop. The colours first caught my attention, all those bright Autumn colours.
Now I have the pattern book and the first 2 blocks ,oh dear it's going to be a bit of a challenge for me.

I will read everything first(I never do that, very much a dive straight in sort of girl) make sure I have it in my head .....I am a bit worried already .....I wanted to do needle turn appliqué ,but not sure now, because I am very new to it,will decide later.so here it is ,Pumpkinville ,don't you think it's just gorgeous,Well girls ,lets hope I havnt bitten of more than I can chew.Lovely Sharon from Lilibellelane lane,I may be writing to to soon and commissioning you to finish it for meLOL.....
Wish me luck.
My first bit of needle turn,Anni Downs Some kind of wondeful, the fist panel has thes jeans,so thouhgt I woul have a go at these because they were not too fiddley. Not very straight, but happy with my first serious attempt.

I put flowers on the legs of mine, bacause during the 70s when I wore bell bottom jeans, thats what I put on them. Was always into flowers.
When I went to festival of quilts,I was looking for a small ironing board ,I found one but they were very expensive so I diddnt bother. This week I decided to make my own,so off to B& Q for a small bit of MDF,I found an off cut and it cost me £1.
Here is my ironing board.lots off left over batting and a bit of fabris left over from the quilt I made Nicky, and a very old cutting mat...

The old cutting mat on the back,so if I need to trim just whip it over.

It works great, very happy and it only cost me £1.and a few scraps.

Another one on the light box, from Anni Ds book.
Block 6 mystery BOM from FQS,and block 8 from cotton patch.

We have been promised lots of storms next week,so I will be very happy in my little craft room(with the door firmly shut to keep Lilly out).
But please spare a thought for the many people in the UK that have their homes flooded for the 3rd in some cases 4th time this year.

Had lunch with my girlfriends today ,a nice little Italian place, plenty of pasta and a good catch up with everyone.

until next time, have a great weekend.

Cravings.

I have been craving this book for ages.Been watching this gorgeous quilt grow on several blogs, and really really ....I found it woohoo, for some reason,in the UK we have all these lovely books way after  Australia and America.
Some kind of wonderful ,by Anni Downs.I bought a couple of other books too.Tis the season by Natalie Bird, (will make this next year now)and another Anni Downs called ,the simple life.

Ooooooi I am so excited,I really want to make this quilt(some kind of  wonderful)  When
I look at it,I think it truely is my life, for  I love ,shoes, bags ,cakes ,chocolate,my puppy .....and and and........
I think Anni designed this quilt with all us girls in mind.
It will be my challenge for next year,I am going to have a good attempt at needle turn appliqué (no kidding) with the exception of the tiny bit on a block last month,I have never done any before, its on my bucket list.

This is a Christmas present for my friend,so not showing more than this.

My birthday flowers are still looking good, over a week on.
Lilys are my favourite flower, closely followed by roses.

Birthday present from my very best friend Sue.lovely Apron and Christmas bauble.A verry pretty apron, thank you Sue.x

I know just where this is going.

Still busy knitting Santa, must get it finished soon, and ready to post.

Thank you everyone for birthday wishes and anniversary wishes. We had a great time on all .
I diddnt get my new computer,I chose the one I want, but decided to wait untill after Christmas.
This is Betsys closet  quilted ,its not a good photo,we have had very poor light all the week here, wet misty all week.
I also managed to quilt my Christmas table runner.

Here it is on the cupboard in my hall, with the table frame thingy on top.....
This is what I had for my birthday,a sizzix big shot.I have the old red one for many years, but its a bit heavy on my silly shoulder, this is so much easier, and I can use all my old dies.Very very happy girl.

the old one
will have to find a good home for this one..

thought I would show a few of the old things hanging around my home. This one I started and got fed up with,so my friends mum Shiela finished it for me. 1998 this was made.

A bit of ribbon weaving.

Henry  V111   in blackwork 1994 ,
My daughter Nicola made this one many years ago when she was still at school, its tapestry long stitch ,its on my bedromm wall.
I have lots around the place ,may put a few more on another time.
My dear friend Sue sent me a lovely gift for my birthday,I will take a picture and put it on next time.
Its back to my knitting now, making Santa and wife for Nicky, made them for Natalie last year, and of course have to do them again.
till next time ,have a lovely weekend.

Wearing my poppy with pride

They shall not grow old

As we that are left grow old

Age shall not weary them

Nor the years condemn

At the going down of sun

And in the morning

We will remember them.

Thinking of all the thousands of men and women lost or terribly injured protecting our country.

November

It's a busy month for us,with Brian's birthday on 5th,mine on the 9th and our wedding anniversary on the 12th,it's one heck of a week.
This year it's 65 for Bri,64 for  me,and 35 years of wedded bliss,(and they said it wouldn't last)LOL
It's very chilly here now, frosty nights.
Our little pup was ten months old yesterday ,she's been with us for eight months, and has really taken over the household .
I have finished the top of my Christmas table runner, very happy with how it turned out,2of the stitcheries are from Bird Brain designs, and the other 2 from a book I have called Winter Twitterings.
Hoping to put batting and backing on this week.

Well I started writing this post on Saturday ...its now Wednesday will carry on lol.
Brian had a lovely birthday on Monday,we took the kids to the pub after school and had great food

Me and birthday boy,my great bloke is now 65 and officially a pensioner..Who would have thought it,how and when did we get to this age.....

My beautiful daughter Natalie, just hates having her picture taken and always looks away.

Bryce my grandson is more than happy to have his taken.

Jayda always pulls a funny face...
At the weekend I was busy making Christmas cards ,I have left it really late this year, they are usually ready to post by now. They had to be quilck and easy this year ,so its just print and mount.
Having trouble with my sewing machine ,needs servicing, also new computer for my birthday Bri...yes please.
How is it that everything plays up at the same time.....

Brians birthday card

inside his card

some of the Christmas cards

Well thats it for now,its taken me over an hour to do this ,computer now being put in the bin...lol
hope the next post is on a nice new one, fingers crossed.

hi all

hello everyone, the weather here is not nice this week, damp foggy days.just the weather to stay at home and sew.

This is block 6 of Cotton Patch BOM.Dont look too close, but the handles on the baskets are my very fist attemp at needle turn applique.( hope you are looking Susie)A bit wobbly ,have to get a lot more practice in,because next month I will be getting my new BOM,from Fat Quarter shop. Its called pumpkinsville and I would love to needle turn applique it.

This is block 7.I usually take photo's at night, mistake, the lightings not good. This looks a bit wonky on here, its straight really.....
Started to knit an aran cardie for Bri.he still wears the one I made him in the 70,its very worn out but he loves it around the house.I managed to find the same pattern, can you beleive it.Vintage patterns on ebay.

I spend all this time knitting and he only wears them around the house,no way would he go out in a cardigan, men are strange creatures.

Block 5 from Fat Quarter Shop BOM,I love this bom,the colours are just delicious.
Well that me up to date, just finishing off some red work, and Betsys closet is pinned ready to quilt.
